About Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Election Results

Tamil Nadu with 39 parliamentary constituencies is often seen as a political powerhouse where two major political parties - All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) take turn ruling the state. Polling for the 39 Lok Sabha seats was held on April 19 in the first of the seven-phase election, recording close to 69 per cent voter turnout in a single phase.

In the 2019 general election, the DMK alliance led by MK Stalin swept the polls by winning 38 of the 39 seats. The AIADMK won the only remaining seat.

In the 2014 election, AIADMK led by then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa won an impressive 37 seats, BJP won 1 seat and the Pattali Makkal Katchi led by S Ramadoss won 1 seat. The primary Opposition party in the state at that time, DMK, led by M Karunanidhi did not win a single seat.

The 2024 contest is the second national election after the death of two political icons in the state - DMK's M Karunanidhi and AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa. Both AIADMK and DMK had agreed to pre-poll alliances with national parties BJP and Congress, respectively.
