Telangana voted in the fourth phase of the seven-phase national elections on May 13. It appears to be mainly a three-cornered contest between the ruling Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), and the BJP in the southern state's 17 seats.
Out of the 17 constituencies, three are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and two for Scheduled Tribes (ST). A total of 35,356 polling stations have been set up across the state.
This is the second national elections for Telangana after it was recognised as a separate state. The total population in the state is 3.5 crore.
The 17 constituencies in Telangana are Adilabad, Bhuvanagiri, Chevella, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Malkajgiri, Medak, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Peddapalle, Secunderabad, Warangal and Zahirabad.
As per the data sourced from the National Election Planner, the state has a total of 3.3 crore electors, out of which 1.64 crore are men, 1.65 crore are women and 2,737 are from the third gender. Further, of the total electors, 15,378 are service electors and 3,399 are overseas Indian electors.
Interestingly, there are 90 lakh electors in Telangana who are in the age group of 18-19 years, which is significantly higher than its neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh that has 8 lakh electors in the same category.
The total of 3.3 electors in Telangana and 4.08 crore electors in Andhra Pradesh shows a growth in the number of electors since 2019. It may be noted that polling percentage was highest at 74.64 per cent in undivided Andhra Pradesh in the General Elections 2014.
The counting of votes for the national elections will be held on June 4.
