The Lok Sabha election in West Bengal was held in seven phases. Previously, it was held in five phases in 2009 and 2014, and in seven phases in 2019. There are 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal. It is the state with the third-highest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, behind Uttar Pradesh with 80 and Maharashtra with 48.
Phase 1 was on April 19, and the constituencies were Coochbehar, Alipurduars, and Jalpaiguri.
Phase 2 was on April 26. The constituencies were Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat.
Phase 3 was on May 7, and the constituencies were Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur, and Murshidabad.
Phase 4 was on May 13. The constituencies were Baharampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Bardhaman Purba, Bardhaman Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur, and Birbhum.
Phase 5 was on May 20. The constituencies were Bangaon, Barrackpur, Howrah, Uluberia, Sreerampur, Hooghly, and Arambag.
Phase 6 was held on May 25. The constituencies were Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur.
The last phase or phase 7 was on June 1. The constituencies were Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, and Kolkata Uttar.
The BJP's astounding performance in West Bengal in 2019, when it won 18 of the state's 42 seats, was not an outlier and the party is set to do even better this time, exit polls have predicted. Health warning: exit polls often get it wrong.
The key parties in West Bengal are Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool, the BJP, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Congress.
Left parties had ruled the state for 34 years; the Trinamool Congress has been in power for 13 years.
Votes will be counted on June 4.
