It's known to all that Alia Bhatt made her debut in Bollywood with Student Of The Year in 2012. But did you know that it all started for her with just a phone call? On 10 years of Student Of The Year, actress Soni Razdan shared the story behind Alia getting her first film. She revealed that it was a phone call from casting director Shanoo Sharma that kick-started Alia's career. The actress was busy working on her International Baccalaureate degree. Sharing a collage featuring Alia's Shanaya Singhania from the Karan Johar directorial, Soni Razdan wrote, “My darling Shanoo Sharma, on this special day of 10 years of SOTY just want to thank you again for thinking of Alia.”
She added, “Your phone call will remain etched in my mind forever. We were about to set off on a trek the next morning when you called that night, and hesitantly asked me if Alia [Bhatt] was at all interested in acting! And I said well eventually yes but she's still studying. So much love to you always (heart icons).”
Shanoo Sharma was all hearts for Soni Razdan's post. In the comments section, the casting director wrote, “I didn't know what the world was in for… but I am glad I made that call. I love you, Soni [Razdan]. Always have always will”. Replying to her comment, Soni Razdan said, “As I do you. There is a special place in my heart that is just for you.”
Along with Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra also made their acting debut with Student Of The Year, which was released on October 19, 2012.

In a separate post, Soni Razdan shared that Alia Bhatt wasn't at all planning to join films when Student Of The Year came her way. She was supposed to go to a drama school and then enter Bollywood. Sharing a montage of clips from the 2012 film, featuring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, Soni Razdan wrote, “Student Of The Year came out of nowhere for our baby Alia (Bhatt) and when we least expected it! At the time Alia was busy working on her International Baccalaureate - a diploma I am so glad she could do - and acting in a movie was a distant dream… one which we were not at all prepared for… just yet.”
“The plan was for Alia to go to a drama school and then somehow try to get a role in something! Thank you, Karan Johar for auditioning her, and giving her a chance to work on herself before finally casting our girl. So happy she got the opportunity to do this film, and have you as her mentor, guide, best friend and yes - a second father. With immense gratitude and love, and huge congratulations and blessings always,” she added.
On the 10th anniversary of Student Of The Year, Alia Bhatt, too, made a promise to her fans to “be better, dream deeper and work harder.” Her post read, “10 years today…And, I am so so grateful… Every single day. I promise to be better - dream deeper - work harder! Thank you for the magic. Love love and only love.”
Alia Bhatt, who is now expecting her first child with husband Ranbir Kapoor, will soon make her Hollywood debut with Heart Of Stone, co-starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan. The actress' last few releases such as Brahmastra, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Darlings have been a hit among cinephiles and critics.
