Film 3 Kanya director AgnidevChatterjee has denied that his film is inspired by last year'sinfamous Park Street gang rape, saying it does not refer toany specific incident.
"I will rather describe the film as a thriller which hasmany issues confronting a woman and not necessarily one whichconfines itself to one single subject," Chatterjee, whois also the film's producer, said.
Starring Rituparna Sengupta and Ananya Chatterjeewith a guest appearance by West Bengal education minister andthespian Bratya Basu, the film is the story of how a womanraped by three men finds justice only after her case ishighlighted by a news channel.
Actress Rituparna said, "There are indeed shades of areal life incidents. But rather than referring to any specificevent, I should say the film draws on facts which may takeplace in any woman's life. This shows the dichotomy betweenour 'parampara', our tradition and our present day socialbehaviour. There lies a mismatch perhaps."
Asked About lesbianism playing a prominent part in themovie, Rituparna said, "Two characters of the film, oneessayed by me and the other enacted by Unnati Davara (winnerof Miss India East title 2010), develop a deep, intenserelationship at the sub-conscious level of their minds."
Talking about her co-star national award winner AnanyaChatterjee, who played the role of a victimised woman in themovie, Rituparna said, "Ananya is brilliant as usual."
National-level cricketer Ranadeb Bose has a debut rolein the film as the former lover of Rituparna's character.
