4th Bangalore International Film Festival begins
Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today inaugurated the fourth edition of Bangalore International Film Festival here.

South African film Lucky, which has city actor M P B Jayashree in lead role, was the inaugural film. Jayashree's performance in the film has won her the top acting award at the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival.

A total of 175 films across various genres and from different countries will be screened at five theatres in the eight-day festival. They include 130 foreign films from 40 countries, 15 Kannada cinema and 30 other Indian movies. This year's focus will be on Polish, Egyptian, Asian, contemporary Indian and contemporary Kannada cinema.

The country retrospectives include classics like the 1936 film Achhut Kanya, Meera (with late Carnatic musician M S Subbulakshmi), David Lean's Oliver Twist, Telugu Devadas directed by Vedantam Raghavaiah and Rajkumar's Sandhya Raga.

Vintage category features landmark cinema from across the globe like Z (France), Interrogation (Poland), Lemon Tree (Israel), Downfall (Germany), The Whistle Blower (Canada), a special documentary Air India 182 (Canada), Mao's Last Dancer (Australia) and Thanneer Thanneer (India).
