New York: Controversial rapper 50 Centhas been approached by an animal rights group to become the"godfather" of an African rhinoceros, who has survived ninegun wounds, just like him.
The Candy Shop hitmaker was urged by South Africancharity 'eBlockwatch' to adopt Phila, an endangered blackrhino who has been shot nine times by poachers, reported NewYork Post online.
The group think the rapper will be able to relate tothe animal's plight, as he was also shot nine times on thestreets of New York.
"We want to ask him if he wants to become thegodfather of our rhino so that he can create awarenessworldwide about rhino poaching," said the charity's memberAndre Snyman.
Snyman also joked that, as the animal is bigger thanthe rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, she could berenamed One Pound if he does adopt her.
Poachers in South Africa target rhinos for theirhorns, which are then sold to the Far East for a high price, where they are used in traditional medicines.
Phila was shot twice in July by poachers, promptingher owner to cut off her horn in an attempt to protect thecreature, only for hunters to return and shoot her anotherseven times while trying to hack out the stub of the horn.
'eBlockwatch' has already taken moves to protectPhila, by issuing her a bodyguard, a trained security lion.
50 Cent has yet to say if he would be willing tosponsor or adopt the rhino.
