Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in a still from Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone
New Delhi:
The Boy Who Lived is an adult of 18 now - or at least, the first book he featured in is. Author JK Rowling marked the milestone anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone with this tweet:
18 years since Harry, Ron and Hermione first battled the troll and became fast friends at Hogwarts in the June of 1997. The film version came four years later in November 2001.
We're using a time turner to go back, well not 18 years, but 14, to see what the young cast of the film of the first Harry Potter book looked like then, and what they look like now.
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)
At the age of 11, Daniel was cast as the titular character in the eight-part film series. Now 25, he's added stubble but is still instantly recognisable as the champion of Gryffindor. Outside the wizarding world, Daniel has carved a niche for himself in theatre with plays like Equus and on screen with The Woman in Black on his resume. He will be next seen in Victor Frankenstein.
Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)
As bushy haired child prodigy Hermione, Emma played the smartest of the young witches and wizards in Hogwarts. She continued the role off-screen, studying at Brown and Oxford. She's now a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and an actress celebrated for her performances in films like The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and The Bling Ring.
Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley)
The red hair is all that's left of Ron now - the angst, the freckles, gone. After the Harry Potter series, Rupert starred in several films like Into the White and Charlie Countryman. He also tried his luck on stage with plays like Mojo and It's Only a Play.
James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley)
Unlike the Weasley twins, the Phelps twins are not totally inseparable. However, here's one thing that's similar: "They're identical"!
Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley)
We only got a glimpse of actress Bonnie Wright in the Philosopher's Stone. However, Ginny Weasley's character developed starting her journey at Hogwarts, a year after Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy)
Harry's arch-nemesis is an all-round good guy now, and has starred in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and other films.
Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom)
Now that's a 'transfiguration'. From toothy, goofy Neville to Jake Gyllenhaal-like good looks, it's worthy of Professor McGonagall herself.
Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas)
From the world of magic, actor Alfred Enoch travelled to the world of crime in TV show How to Get Away With Murder. The actor co-stars with Viola Davis in the award-winning show.
Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan)
A few years out of potions class seems have suited Devon Murray well.
Afshan Azad (Padma Patil)
Actress Afshan Azad, who starred as Padma Patil, Ron's date to the Yule Ball in Goblet of Fire, is making heads turn!
Shefali Chowdhury (Parvati Patil)
Shefali, who was Padma's twin Parvati, looks just as charming as before.
Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley)
What's this? Mommy's Diddykins has finally completed his diet! But we like Big D as he is.
Today is a very special day for two reasons. Firstly, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in the UK 18 years ago!
