Los Angeles: Hollywood legend, Sophia Loren will be honoured by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
The Oscar-winning actress, who earned her first Academy award for her role in Vittorio De Sica's movie Two Women, will be honoured on April 4.
The Academy will celebrate the life and career of Loren by showing her film clips and personal remarks from her friends and colleagues, concluding with an onstage conversation with the star.
The iconic director De Sica directed Loren in another Oscar nominated movie Marriage Italian Style opposite Marcello Mastroianni. Loren traveled effortlessly between Hollywood and international productions, delivering memorable performances opposite many great leading men, including Cary Grant in Houseboat, Clark Gable in It Started in Naples, Gregory Peck in Arabesque, Marlon Brando in A Countess from Hong Kong and Richard Burton in The Voyage.
In 1990 the Academy presented an Honorary Award (an Oscar statuette) to Loren in acknowledgment of her status as "one of the genuine treasures of world cinema who, in a career rich with memorable performances, has added permanent luster to our art form."
