National Award-winning filmmaker Aparna Sen defended actor Aamir Khan on November 27, by saying that his comment on intolerance is being "blown out of proportion" and that his concerns are justified as a citizen of the country.
"It's been blown out of proportion. As a citizen of the country, who has given us Satyamev Jayate, Aamir has every right to be worried. Why are people blowing it out of proportion?," Ms Sen asked. (Also Read: What Hrithik Roshan Learnt From Aamir Khan: Respond, Don't React)
Earlier, there was a storm around Shah Rukh Khan's comment that there is "extreme intolerance" in India. He was also compared to Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed by a BJP MP, while another senior BJP leader called him a 'deshdrohi' (traitor). Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi too called him a "Pakistani agent".
Asserting that "incidents of intolerance are going unpunished" in the country, Ms Sen pointed out that Sadhvi Prachi's "divisive" comments went unrebuked.
"When people like Sadhvi make such remarks, that kind of thing is really divisive. But nobody chastised her, nobody took her to task as they took Aamir to task," Ms Sen told the media in Kolkata.
