The trinity of Khans ruling Bollywood have mastered the art of minimum films but maximum screen space. Increasingly, the Khans appear in fewer films each year - Aamir Khan famously follows a single film a year policy - but the impact they have on the box office grows exponentially.
Aamir's new film PK, releasing on December 19, will open in 5200 screens.
In the megabucks box office game that Bollywood celebrities play nowadays, the aim is to collect maximum revenues in the first weekend and the larger the share of screen space, the likelier it is set the cash registers ringing.
Shah Rukh Khan film Happy New Year, released in October, was shown across 5000 screens and fetched a record Rs 108 crores in the first weekend. Some months previously, Salman Khan's Kick released across 4700 screens and collected Rs 83 crore in the opening weekend.
For Aamir, long practiced at reclaiming records, the stakes are high and he's meticulous about details both on and off-screen when it comes to his films. Lest anyone forget, his last outing with PK director Rajkumar Hirani gave us 3 Idiots, still the highest-earning Bollywood film worldwide.
PK also stars actors Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput.
