  • Actor Salman Khan appeared in a Mumbai court today in connection with the hit-and-run case, the retrial of which has been adjourned to April 28. The actor filed an application stating he wouldn’t be available on April 8 which is the date the retrial had been adjourned to.
  • The retrial of the case was scheduled to begin on March 26. Three witnesses who were to be examined in court that day failed to appear after which the trial was then adjourned to April 8. Mr Khan was exempted from appearing in court.
  • In September 2002, Mr Khan was allegedly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser that ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra. One person was killed and four others were injured in the accident.
  • The case has gone from court to court with arguments centred around whether Mr Khan was driving the car that day or not. The Mumbai police say they have enough evidence against him.
  • In 1998, Salman Khan spent three days in prison for killing black buck, an endangered species of deer, in Rajasthan. The actor's appeals in separate poaching cases are currently pending in the Rajasthan courts.
  • The 48-year-old actor is considered one of Bollywood's biggest draws and has starred in some of its highest-earning films in the last five years. He last appeared in January's Jai Ho, co-starring debutante Daisy Shah. He also made a cameo appearance in O Teri, produced by his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, which released on March 28.
