New Delhi:
A man died today while performing a stunt at the inauguration ceremony of a mall in Greater Noida. The incident occurred at the AMR Great Adventure Mall.
Shailendra Singh, who was rappelling from the roof of the mall, was killed when the rope supporting him snapped near the seventh floor of the Great Adventure Mall. Mr Singh was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The 30-year-old was a bungee jumping trainer.
Actress Sayali Bhagat was also reportedly injured in another incident that occurred during a racing event at the same mall. Ms Bhagat was injured when the All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) she was riding overturned.
She was admitted to Noida's Kailash Hospital and has, reportedly, suffered a hairline fracture in her hand.
The police in its initial investigation found that the mall didn't have basic security provisions to hold this kind of adventure sports. According to the police, there were no ambulances, safety net for the stuntmen, first aid or paramedics at the mall.
"We are investigating if mall owners had taken permission to have adventure sports or not," said SP of Noida Police Ashok Kumar.
The mall was inaugurated this morning by union minister Subodh Kant Sahai. The inauguration ceremony, which was supposed to be a two-day event, has been shut down.
