Chennai: South Indian actress Sujatha, best known for her movies like Annakili, Vidhi and Avargal, passed away at her residence following a heart attack. She was 58.
Sujatha performed in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi movies. Her Tamil debut film was K Balachandar's Aval Oru Thodarkathai.
She acted opposite the late Sivaji Ganesan, and in the mid 1970s played heroine to both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, who were just starting their career at that time.
Later she branched out to character roles. She played mother to Rajinikanth in Baba (2002) and her most recent film, which was a big success was Varaalaru (2005) with Ajith Kumar.
Her last appearance on screen was for Telugu film Sri Ramadasu in 2006.
Her Hindi films include Do Kaliyaan, Ek Hi Bhool.
