Adam Yauch honoured by New York State Senate
New Delhi: New York State Senate has passed a resolution honouring the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch's achievements.

The J4637 resolution was written by Daniel Squadron - who represents the district of Brooklyn Heights, where Yauch was born - and celebrates his many accomplishments and contributions.

Daniel vowed to hold a vigil in memory of the 47-year-old -- better known as "MCA" - who succumbed to lymph cancer a fortnight ago.

The lifelong fan of the band hailed them for having "helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes".

The senator said: "Growing up in New York, listening to the Beastie Boys was as basic as carrying an extra subway token in case of emergency."

Labelling Adam as "a man of colossal talent and charisma," he continued to say all who knew him will miss him.

The resolution reads: "The Beastie Boys became well-known in the innovative music scene in Manhattan's East Village and Lower East Side with a sound and a style all their own ... [they] exemplified New York through a period in which grassroots creativity and a community of iconoclastic artists helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes, with iconic imagery from Brooklyn to Ludlow Street."

"Adam Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter Losel. He will be missed by his family, his fans and all who knew him; his dedication to his music, his activism and his heritage leaves an indelible legacy of inspiration for all other artists."
