New Delhi: National Award winning Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu has been chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars.

The film received numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards and four Kerala State Film Awards.

At the 58th National Film Awards, it earned four major awards: for Best Film, Best Actor (Salim Kumar), Best Cinematography and Best Background Score.

Adaminte Makan Abu, which translates into 'Abu, Son of Adam' is a film written, directed and co-produced by first-time filmmaker Salim Ahamed.

The movie stars Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab.

In notable smaller roles are actors Mukesh, Nedumudi Venu, Kalabhavan Mani, and Suraj Venjarammoodu.

The film, which got rave reviews for its simple story as well as lead actor Salim Kumar's excellent performance, is a family drama which paints the sorrow and suffering of an elderly Muslim couple, who struggle to find money to fulfill their dream of going on Haj.

Ramesh Narayan's compositions and Isaac Thomas and Kottukapally's background score heighten the narrative.

Salim Kumar became the tenth Malayalam actor, and the first comedian, to win the National Film award for the film.

Director Salim Ahamed, who has penned story and screenplay, has been hailed for creating a masterpiece out of a simple story.

Salim Ahamed, in the meanwhile, has been in talks with Karan Johar and J. P. Dutta, who are reportedly eager to remake the hit film in Hindi.
