London: Singer Adele reportedly turned down millions to record the theme song of the upcoming James Bond film SPECTRE before it went to Sam Smith, reported Daily Mirror.

The 27-year-old Grammy Award-winning artist did not want to sing the theme song as she would have found it too difficult to top 2012's Skyfall, which won the Academy Award in Best Original Song, category.

"Adele was Bond's first choice. Actor Daniel Craig (who plays the titular role) was really keen and Sam Mendes (director of SPECTRE) was 50-50 over whether to use her or a new voice. Filmmakers were prepared to offer millions, but Adele was never up for it. How do you top a worldwide hit like Skyfall anyway? It was too big a risk," a source said. Producers then decided to turn to Sam Smith, who has chartbusters like Stay With Me to his credit. The theme song titled, The Writing's On The Wall, will be revealed on September 25. (Also Read: William, Kate, Harry on VIP Guest List at SPECTRE's London Premiere)
