Declaring it to be the 'end of an era', the frontman hinted that the split was a bitter one and fans to listen to the lyrics of Burning Bridges, the title track of the band's last album, if they want to know the full story, reported Billboard magazine.

"It is the end of an era. (The album fulfils) a commitment to Mercury Records. After 32 years, we have parted ways. That is the big news.

"If you listen to Burning Bridges, the song, it is clearly spelled out. This hits it right in the head and tells you what happened. Listen to the lyrics because it explains exactly what happened. And that's that," he said.

The song, which is the last track on the album, features the lyrics, "After 30 years of loyalty, they let you dig the grave. Now maybe you can learn to sing or strum along. Well I'll give you half the publishing. You're why I wrote this song."

The singer also revealed the musicians endured a difficult year following the departure of guitarist Richie Sambora quit, but they are working on a new album and have a tour scheduled for early 2016.

"A lot happened. Richie's sudden departure, my trying to buy the (Buffalo) Bills (football team) and now this with the label. I have a lot of material to write about. Believe me, the new record is good. It's pointed. It is something we are going to be very proud of in the spring when we put it out."
