Narendra Modi blessing the just married couple - Ahana and Vaibhav.
New Delhi:
Bollywood stars-turned-politicians Hema Malini and Dharmendra are both BJP members so it shouldn't have been surprising that the VIP guest list at their daughter Ahana Deol's wedding included a high-ranking political colleague. What was unexpected, though, that this invitee should be no less a person than Narendra Modi himself, chief minister of Gujarat and the man who will be Prime Minister if this year's general elections turns up a BJP government.
Dressed in a white kurta pyajama, Mr Modi greeted Ahana, clad in coral Manish Malhotra, and her new husband Vaibhav Vora at their wedding reception in Mumbai on February 2. A thrilled Hema Malini, lovely in pale blue and gold, looked on.
The Sholay stars are both active BJP members. Hema Malini was made general secretary of the party in 2010 and has served as a Rajya Sabha MP. Dharmendra was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bikaner in 2004.
Mr Modi was not the only political face spotted at the celebrations. Former Samajwadi leader Amar Singh was photographed with yoga guru and political campaigner Baba Ramdev.
Politicos apart, Bollywood was well represented at the wedding with old Deol cronies like Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Rekha, Jeetendra and Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi rubbing shoulders with a younger guard of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh.
