Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010
New Delhi:
It's April and while the thoughts of young men will proverbially be turning to love, those of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be turning to her wardrobe. Like every year since 2002, Aishwarya will begin packing for Cannes and, because she's had such a wildly careening graph with fashion success on the French Riviera, April might really be the cruelest month for her.(Also read: Ash, too afraid to be sexy at Cannes?)
We suspect, however, that this year India's most famous face on the Croisette may score fewer style knocks if she sticks to Sabyasachi and gives Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla a wide berth as she has lately been doing. The matronly sari and jacket by Abu-Sandeep that Ash wore for her post-maternity red carpet comeback in 2012 did her no favours. Aishwarya has looked her best in Elie Saab and Armani but last year, she had a desi hit in the black and gold Sabyasachi sari she wore to the amfAR gala in Cannes.
In sharp contrast, Cannes jury member Vidya Balan wore a series of unflattering Sabyasachi outfits and has since reportedly dropped the designer, credited with transforming the star from frumpy to fashionable.
At home, Aishwarya has made all her recent public appearances in Sabyasachi, wearing his intricate creations to the launch of the trailer of Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan and other events.
Aishwarya can take comfort in the knowledge that this year husband Abhishek Bachchan will be keeping her company at Cannes and he's sure to love whatever she wears, whether anyone else does or no.
