The French government will speciallyinvite actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the Cannes FilmFestival scheduled later this year which will also celebrate100 years of Indian cinema, a senior diplomat has said.Aishwarya was conferred upon a civilian award by theFrench government for her contribution to the arts on theoccasion of her birthday last year.
Responding to a question, French Ambassador to IndiaFrancois Richier told reporters here yesterday that Aishwaryais always respected in France because of her association withthe Cannes film festival.
"She is very dear to our heart and we are very gratefulto her," said Richier, who had conferred the civilian award tothe actress on behalf of the French government."The Cannes festival will have a special focus on IndianCinema where we will invite Indian film stars," the Ambassadorsaid, adding that Aishwarya would also be invited.
Aishwarya's French connection is a long one, rightfrom the time she has been endorsing a French cosmetic brand,he said.
