Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's latest Cannes ensemble shows just why she'll never make it to the big league of high fashion. After surprising us with an aberration of colour in the form of a teal blue Gucci dress and hot pink lips, Ash played safe with a gold sari by Tarun Tahiliani at the amFAR gala.So far so good. A 24 carat look in the making.Except for two details. A high-necked blouse took her outfit from glam to matronly, and a tightly-bound, towering hairdo was just a shade less unflattering than the updo Ash wore with her Gucci dress.

It seems like Ash simply cannot wear her saris with a regular choli. Last year, she wore her Abu-Sandeep sari with a full-sleeved jacket that screamed frumpy. This year at the India gala night she wore a black and gold Sabyasachi sari with a covered-up blouse.
