Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan said Sarbjit has been made sensitively, keeping in mind the emotions of Sarabjit Singh's family.
The Omung Kumar-directed film is based on life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism and spying by a court in Pakistan. He died following an assault by fellow prisoners in a Pakistani jail.
"As a team we always make movies to bring it to the audience. We are glad today onwards it (the film) is open to you all to view. We hope you appreciate the efforts of the team," Aishwarya told reporters at the premiere of Sarbjit.
"It's a very sincere piece of cinema straight from the heart. As a team, it's important to us that this film has been made sensitively keeping in mind the sensitivity of the subject and the members of the family," she said.
"The fact that Dalbirji and her family feel validated that is by far the most precious aspect. It meant a lot to me and the team," she said.
Aishwarya thanked the Uttar Pradesh government where the film has been declared tax free.
"We are thankful to the chief minister that the film has been declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh. It means a lot. It means the film will reach wider audience. We hope at more places the film will be tax free," she said.
Sarbjit features actor Randeep Hooda in the titular role while Aishwarya plays the role of his sister, Dalbir who fought relentlessly for her brother's freedom.
