Bollywood's first family, the Bachchans, had a sole representative in the form of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Sunday's party to meet Prince William and Kate Middleton. The absence of Ash's husband Abhishek, 40, is explained by this Twitter conversation with his fan:

But the night belonged to the guests of honour, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate Middleton looked lovely in a royal blue Jenny Packham dress, which she accessorised with Amrapali jewels. We like the desi twist, made-in-India beading:

Prince William and Kate are touring India and Bhutan, a visit aimed at building up strong bonds with the two countries.
