Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has reportedly signed Rohit Shetty's remake of the 1958 hit Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi opposite Shah Rukh Khan - perhaps the filmmaker's most enviable casting coup so far.
SRK and Aishwarya, who were last seen together in in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2002 film Devdas, will play a couple on-screen after 12 years. Devdas has been their only proper Bollywood romance so far. They played siblings in the 2000 film Josh and Aishwarya had a cameo role in Shah Rukh Khan's Mohabbatein, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan. She also appeared in the item number Ishq Kameena in SRK's film Shakti.
While SRK and Ash have been confirmed, there is no news of the other two male members pf the cast. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi starred Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anup Kumar in the lead roles while Madhubala played Kishore da's love interest. The grapevine suggests that Rohit Shetty was planning to rope in actors Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan for the project but the director has denied this.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's comeback film has been the subject of endless speculation for a long time now. And while Sanjay Gupta's Jazbaa could claim to be that film, it is this film with SRK that could put her squarely back on the Bollywood map yet again.
