New Delhi:
Baadshaho song Socha Hai, which was a recreated version of Kishore Kumar's hit number Keh Doon Tumhe from Deewar (1975), has been dropped from Ajay Devgn's film, reports mid-day. Producer Rajiv Rai of Trimurti Films filed a case against T-Series for remixing the song without official permission. Trimurti films owned the rights to the lyrics and music of Keh Doon Tumhe, who later signed an agreement with Polydor (now Universal Music India), to make and sell gramophone records of songs from Deewar. "When you make a song, you sometimes give the remix rights to the music company. But, in this case, we had not given the rights to Polydor. So when T-Series took the remix rights from Universal, the company told them categorically that if Trimurti Films sues them, they will have to fight it out. It's not just a fight for me, but for all producers in Bollywood," Mr Rai told mid-day.
Keh Doon Tumhe from Deewar was filmed on Neetu Singh and Shashi Kapoor while in Socha Hai, the recreated version, Emraan Hashmi romances Esha Gupta. Socha Hai released a couple of weeks ago and has now been dropped from YouTube.
Of the whole issue, Bhushan Kumar (MD and chairman, T-Series) told mid-day, "We've always bought recreation rights from the respective music companies. This is the first time that the rights were fractured. We have dropped the song from the movie and pulled it down from all networks."
Rajiv Rai also alleged that when songs from his films Oye Oye (Tridev) and Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast (Mohra) were recreated, the makers never sought his permission.
Baadshaho, directed by Milan Luthria, stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Ileana D'Cruz, Esha Gupta and Vidyut Jammwal. It releases on September 1.
