Marathi actor Ajinkya Deo, whose directorial debut Jeta (winner) would be released statewide on August 6, feels that there is a winner in each one of us.

"There is a winner in each one us. The need is to awaken him.Jeta too is a story of an old couple who refuse to accept injustice and decide to stand up for their beliefs."

"It is only when this attitude is adopted, can we bring the desired change in our society," Ajinkya told PTI.

The Marathi movie not only marks Ajinkya's directorial debut, but is also the comeback vehicle of his parents, the veteran couple Ramesh Deo and Seema.

It was my mother, Seema Deo's condition that she would work again in her home production and that it has to be directed by her son. She is facing the camera after 14 long years, he informed.

They are married for 50 years in real life. Even after so many years, their chemistry is fantastic, Ajinkya said.

On how he dealt with them on sets, given that both are veteran actors and also his parents, Ajinkya said they were very cooperative.

"Dealing with my mother was not a problem. Even my father was very cooperative. I had a bit of tension with him given his vast experience with so many known directors. It was clearly understood that on sets, I was the director, and they the actors," he said.

Asked when had the couple last acted together, Ajinkya said he was not sure of the exact year. "I think it was Marathi movie Sarja. I am not sure," he said. The movie, starring Prasad Oak and Sharad Ponkshe, would be released in 100 centres in the state.

Ajinkya also lamented that unfortunately roles are not written for veteran actors in the film industry.

"It is sad that roles are not specially written for veteran actors. I was living with this (Jeta) story for 10-12 years now, and I had written it with my parents in mind."

"In fact, this is also what I want to say through the movie. Though physically weak, these aged are a powerhouse of experience. They are mentally very strong and capable of showing the right direction to today's youth," he said, adding"they are not a liability but an asset."

On the response expected, Ajinkya said we are sure that audience would leave the theatre with a smile on their face.

"We have made a good movie and we have liked it," he added.
