Strongly objecting to actors andproducers visiting the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti topray for the success of their films, the religious head of thedargah has called upon Islamic intellectuals and Ulemas to payurgent attention to the issue.
He says that dance and films are taboo in Islam andcinema in general today is promoting obscenity, which is amajor reason behind the rapid degradation of moral values inthe society. Hence visits by films starts/director/producersfor "a kind of promotion of their work" at the religious placeis highly intolerable.
"The holy place must not be used as a platform for such apurpose that is forbidden and against Islamic law but it isdone by film stars repeatedly who come here to seek blessingsfor their films and propagate the same through media," DargahDewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan, the Hereditary Sajjada-nashin ofKhwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishty, said in a statement hereon Sunday.
"It is surprising that Islamic intellectuals, scholars,Ulemas are quiet on this issue. They should break silence andexpress their views strongly as they do in other cases. Istrongly condemn the visit by anyone who has an unfair mottoof coming to the holy place. Not only in Islam, but in anyreligion, anti-religious activity must never be tolerated," hesaid.
Dewan has also called the Ulemas, who take cognisance andrelease orders as per the Islamic law, and apprised them ofhis views before releasing his statement.
"I expressed my views to them and said that you shouldalso take appropriate step for this genuine issue. They saidthat they agreed with me because what is being done here bymost film actors, actresses, director, producers etc, isobjectionable," he said.
"Films, obscenity are absolutely detestable to Islamicsense of ethics and morality and, therefore, considered Haram(forbidden) in Islam but many film stars come here with CD/DVDof their work and offer it while praying for the success ofthe film or serial, whatever it is, which is absolutelyagainst the Islamic law," Dewan said.
"Most of the films today are full of obscenity, doublemeaning words and expressions, abuses which are casting verybad impression on society and young generation. It is hatefuland sinful. I strongly condemn and object to the visit of filmactors, actresses, directors and producers to the dargah toseek blessings for such things which are taboo.
"They are using the holy place, a prime center ofreligious belief, for purely commercial purposes and fordegrading moral values among people. Scholars should thinkover this issue," he said.
However, he clarified that he has objection over thevisit with this particular purpose, not for a general visit.
"Countless people irrespective of caste and religion comehere to seek blessings at the dargarh and I have no objectionif film stars come with a genuine wish. I have objection tothe visit which is with a specific motto to promote prohibitedthings," he said.
He referred to a male singer-composer having visited thedargah in the past wearing a burka and a leading actressdonning a skirt during her visit. "This is to attractattention and it is highly objectionable, he said.
"If they come to the Dargah, they should follow theteachings of Khwaja Sahib and act as per the essence of histeachings, instead of taking advantage for commercial purposeand for degrading moral values which is apparent today due tocertain kinds of films," he said.
