Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has extended a helping hand to the rain ravaged people of Chennai by donating Rs 1 crore for relief work.
"After seeing the shocking visuals of rain affected Chennai, Akshay wanted to help the people and in this regard he called director Priyadarshan, who in turn directed him to contact Suhasini Maniratnam," read a statement.
Following Suhasini's suggestion, he donated Rs 1 crore to Bhoomika Trust, which has been preparing and distributing food items since the day Chennai was hit by torrential rain.
Filmmaker Jayendra, managing trustee of Bhoomika Trust, received the cheque from Akshay.
