Alexander McQueen to receive posthumous fashion award
London: Alexander McQueen, the maverick fashion designer who shocked the world by committing suicide this year at the peak of his fame, will receive a posthumous award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design at the British Fashion Awards.

The British designer was chosen for the award by the British Fashion Council for being "a designer whose work had an exceptional impact on global fashion", reported The Telegraph online.

Four times the winner of the British Designer of the Year crown, McQueen was revered around the world for his provocative designs.

To commemorate his life, the award ceremony will open with a film, featuring some of the most iconic pieces from the Alexander McQueen archive, directed by Nick Knight and styled by Edward Enninful, and featuring a soundtrack by Bjork.

Born in London in 1969, McQueen began his fashion career with apprenticeships at the Savile Row and got an MA in fashion designing in 1995.

In less than a decade, he had achieved world renown, delighting and disturbing with severe silhouettes and out-of-the-box creations.

He was 40 when he committed suicide in February, 2010.
