A still from the trailer of Aligarh.
New Delhi:
The makers of Aligarh, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, have released the trailer of the film and it is every bit as sad, painful and powerful as one would expect.
The Hansal Mehta-directed Aligarh is based on the real life story of Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Manoj Bajpayee plays the protagonist, who is gay and treated as an outsider. To compound the social isolation he experiences, journalists break into his house and interrupt an intimate episode.
Soon after, Professor Siras is suspended from the University. Rajkummar Rao plays a journalist who reveals his story to the world. (Also Read: Karan Johar Describes Aligarh As 'Poignant, Moving and Heartbreaking')
Aligarh received a standing ovation after it was screened at the 20th Busan International Film Festival in October last year. It was also screened at the London Film Festival and the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
Aligarh will release on February 26.
