Ameesha Patel made heads turn in her maiden appearance at Cannes
New Delhi:
A new Miss India has arrived at the Cannes Film Festival to dislodge Vidya Balan from her position as top desi girl. Ameesha Patel made her Cannes debut at the screening of All Is Lost, resplendent in Manish Malhotra.
Ameesha, who is in Cannes to promote her upcoming film Shortcut Romeo, cut an elegant figure in a dark blue and coral lehenga with pale gold long choli and dupatta. Coral lips and softly waved hair completed her look.
India is the flavour of the year on the French Riviera. Jury member Vidya Balan has showcased a series of Sabyasachi-designed lehengas and saris, outfits that were stunning in themselves although not so much on Vidya.
Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a black and gold Sabyasachi sari and a less successful Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla anarkali. Even fashion-forward Sonam Kapoor channeled her inner princess in a white and gold Anamika Khanna sari and a black Shehla Khan lehenga.
Short Film jury member Nandita Das flew the Indian flag in a two-tone silk sari on the red carpet and a sunny yellow suit at a photocall.
Kamasutra 3D star Sherlyn Chopra has also been creating waves on the Croisette in a sheer black number and then in a white and gold lehenga. Risque Sherlyn at Cannes? She probably has Mallika Sherawat - who has been rather subdued this year - to thank.
