Amitabh Bachchan expresses shock over Mumbai gang-rape
Big B said that in Mumbai, women have always been looked upon with grace and a lot of dignity
Mumbai: "Deeply shocked" and "distressed" over the gangrape of a woman photojournalist in Mumbai, megastar Amitabh Bachchan said the pride in the name of Mumbai has taken a beating. He said it needs to be rectified soon.

"We have all been very distressed and extremely shocked at this most heinous kind of crime - the gangrape that has happened in Mumbai. This a huge tragedy and I must say this that the name of the city (Mumbai) has taken a beating and we need to rectify that," Big B said.

A woman photojournalist was raped by five men in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound near Mahalaxmi railway station where she was on an assignment along with a male colleague.

"I hope the authorities will take the immediate steps and catch the culprits and put them through a very rigorous investigation, take them to the law and make sure that the law acts as soon as possible," added the 70-year-old.

Lamenting how the city, considered safe for women, has witnessed such a crime, Amitabh added: "We have always had great pride in this city... in the city that has been devoid of any kind of such incidents.

"Women have always been looked upon with grace and a lot of dignity and they have always felt very safe, irrespective of where they go or what they travelled in."
