Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in a still from Mr India.
Mumbai:
The cast of the 1987 movie Mr India came together at the MAMI Movie Mela in Mumbai on October 30. The film may be 28 years old but it still remains India's most loved and iconic superhero film of all times. But since a superhero is only as good as his super villain, the character of Mogambo, which was played by late actor Amrish Puri, was a huge part of the discussion.
"His hairstyle was inspired by former Pakistani president Muhammad Zia-ul-haq and the salute was of course an imitation of the Nazi salute. Mogambo is not a cheap villain. He is a dignified bad guy who is proud of being evil. He owns what he says and is not slimy. He addresses himself in third-person like people in Bollywood. So basically he thinks that he is a star," said lyricist Javed Akhtar, who wrote the film.
Anil Kapoor played a street-walking violinist Arun Verma, who chanced upon a bracelet that had the power to make its owner invisible. When asked about a sequel to the film, Boney Kapoor, who produced the film, said, "Anil Kapoor and I keep getting scripts by people who continue to ask us what it is that we are planning. We have the intention and we have some concepts in mind." (Also Read: Anil, Sanjay Kapoor Were Never Cast Together. But it May Not be Too Late)
Directed by Shekhar Kapur, Mr India also co-starred Sridevi, Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor in key roles.
