Anurag reportedly applied for rights to the title Fugly as well as Ugly, and was turned down.
Mumbai:
Drawing daggers over the rights of film titles is an ongoing saga in Bollywood. And joining in the battle are Kabir Sadanand and Anurag Kashyap over the names of their upcoming films.
According to sources, Kabir has already recorded the songs for his film title Fugly, apparently to be produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi's production house.
However, Kabir is mighty upset with the fact that Anurag has gone ahead and started his film with a similar title Ugly. And Kabir has now registered a complaint against Kashyap with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association.
An insider says, "Kabir has been wanting to make this film for a while now and had even announced the project. The casting is under way and now that the film is going on the floors, Kabir learnt that Anurag has already started shooting for his film Ugly."
The first time he complained to the association he realised that Anurag had applied for the titles Fugly as well as Ugly, and was denied considering that Kabir was in possession of the title.
The source adds, "In spite of that, Anurag has been using the title. Kabir has now complained once again to the association, and he has been assured that the title cannot be used again."
Kabir tells us, "Everyone knows that I am making this film and I have complained not once but twice to the association. Both Association of Motion Pictures & T.V. Programme Producers (AMPTPP) and Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPAA) have put Anurag's title on hold, yet he is being vindictive and is still using the title. I am definitely not going to be muscled out in this process and will fight for what is rightfully mine."
Anurag remained unavailable for comment.
