The first installment of Anurag Kashyap's much-awaited movie, Gangs Of Wasseypur releases today. The two-part revenge saga set in the world of coal mafia was India's first mainstream film to be screened in the Director's Fortnight section at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The Cannes premiere of the movie opened to packed houses and received a positive response at the festival. According to reports, the movie which stars Manoj Bajpai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia , Reema Sen and Huma Qureshi in main roles has a whopping 370 characters, over half of whom have dialogues.
In a recent interview actor Manoj Bajpai said that his role is the most negative on screen and the movie will be full of the 'masala' today's audiences are open to. "The character Sardar Khan played by me has all the negative elements. He is full of lust, involved in all bad activities and has no morals or sense of right and wrong," he said.
According to director Anurag Kashyap, the movie almost did not get made as no one believed in the script initially.
