New Delhi:

Actress Anushka Sharma has hit out at what she calls 'false stories,' including reports that she was served tea by cricket selectors, in a long and strongly-worded Instagram post in which she laments that her silence in the face of negative news reports and being blamed for her husband Virat Kohli's performance have led to lies allegedly being perceived as truth. "My name has been used in fabricated  stories claiming I was part of closed door meetings  and influenced selection process and I kept quiet," Anushka writes. She also clarifies that she pays her own way while travelling with Virat on tour and that she was asked by the wife of the High Commissioner to UK to pose with Team India for a controversial picture taken in London some months ago. She is speaking up now, she says, because 'someone's silence cannot be taken as their weakness.' Anushka Sharma has urged for 'proof and facts' when her 'name is used' and asks that the media 'leave (her) out of it.' Also, she drinks coffee.

Anushka's post instantly received some celebrity support. Arjun Kapoor wrote, "She hits it out of the park." Parineeti Chopra wrote, "Love you, Anushka. And coffee > tea." Ranveer quoted a dialogue from his film Gully Boy and wrote: “Hahahaha! Hard hard ... Diyela hai."

Veteran cricketer Farokh Engineer told Times Of India that he saw selectors 'getting Anushka Sharma tea.' In scathing comments, Mr Engineer asked how a 'Mickey Mouse selection committee' was qualified and that he didn't 'even know who one of the selectors was during the World Cup.'

"All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma cups of tea," Mr Engineer told TOI.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli married in 2017, after dating for several years. She has been routinely and depressingly trolled each time Virat's performance on the pitch has been less than satisfactory. Anushka also regularly accompanies Virat on tour, which sometimes leads to controversy like this Team India picture in London.
