Well-known artist Ganesh Pyne died in south Kolkata's Peerless Hospital today. He was 76.
Mr Pyne, born in 1937, was a graduate of Kolkata's Government College of Art and Craft.
Mr Pyne began as a watercolourist but was best known for his works in tempera and gouache. He took the Bengal school of painting to new heights. His early influences were Abanindranath and Gaganendranath Tagore.
Mr Pyne exhibited regularly in India and abroad between the '60s and the '80s, after which he became somewhat of a recluse and painted rarely, holding few solo exhibitions.
