New Delhi:
Seven personalities from India, including singer Asha Bhosle, tennis star Sania Mirza and actress Kamini Kaushal, have made it to BBC's BBC's list of 100 Women of 2015. Entrepreneurs Smriti Nagpal and Kanika Tekriwal, farmer Rimppi Kumari and campaigner Mumtaz Shaikh also feature in the list of 'most inspiring women.'
Each year, BBC names 100 women - leaders in fields ranging from politics and science to journalism and entertainment - from all over the world.
The legendary Ashaji, who started working in Bollywood in 1943, has recorded songs in approximately 1,000 films.
Kamini Kaushal, better known in Bollywood as the Vivien Leigh of her generation, has acted in over 100 films. She was the lead actress in Neecha Nagar, which was also the first Indian film to win the Best Film award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946.
One of India's most successful tennis players, Sania Mirza won both the Wimbledon and US Open women's doubles in 2015.
Rimppi and her sister Karamjit, took over a 32-acre farm in Rajasthan after their father died.
Smriti was inspired by her work as a sign language interpreter in India to set up Atulyakala, a non-governmental organisation which empowers hearing-impaired artistes.
Mumtaz's fight for free facilities for women through the 'Right to Pee' network earned her the honour in the coveted list.
After being diagnosed with cancer in her early 20s, Kanika was determined to make her mark. She established India's first and only marketplace for private jet and helicopter charters.
The list is a part of '100 Women season' on BBC World News which airs from Wednesday. Sania will be interviewed by BBC World News presenter Yogita Limaye.
