What started as a lot of pointless banter by two young gentlemen hosting the music launch of Farah Khan's upcoming film Happy New Year, turned into an interesting and visually delightful extravaganza. Happy New Year. A heist film, stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah as a bunch of 'losers'. With singer Neeti Mohan opening the show with the song Manwa Laage, the reins were passed on to North-Eastern musical stars Shillong Chamber Choir, members of whom finished what Neeti flagged off. Subsequently came singer Sukhwinder Singh to perform the song Satakli to a very excited and lively audience.
Also at the launch, the item song Lovely, featuring actor Deepika Padukone in the movie, was revealed. Crooners Kanika Kapoor and Dr Zeus performed the number live amid the cheers of fans gathered at the venue. But nothing beat the song Indiawaale which was performed by all the members of the movie's cast.
The performances were followed by a quirky interaction amid the cast members, a very intriguing magic show and a lot of love being showered on King Khan, Shah Rukh, also the male lead of the movie.
Shah Rukh's famous talent with one-liners was very much in evidence, with this witticism: "Abhishek is our chef, Deepika is the one who makes sure everyone is well fed, Sonu Sood's role is to guard Deepika, even we can't look at her directly when he's around, Vivaan Shah is the jester."
Not to be outdone, director Farah Khan came up with: "Most of the time I used to cut Deepika's scenes so that I could spend time with the guys." Happy New Year releases this Diwali.
