New Delhi: A graphic designer has been arrested in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly 'stealing' nine minutes of footage from the work-in-progress Baahubali 2, the second part of the fantasy epic that released last year to blockbuster status. The designer was arrested after a complaint was filed at the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad by S S Rajamouli, the director of the film. Raw footage of war sequence, believed to be part of the film's climax, have allegedly found its way online and gone viral, later being deleted. Baahubali: The Conclusion is the final instalment of a CGI-heavy two-part film starring actors Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia.
The graphic designer is believed to be employed by Hyderabad's Annapurna Studios.
The arrest comes just days after the producers of the film were raided in Hyderabad, allegedly for hoarding old notes. Last week, the Hyderabad offices and homes of Baahubali's producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni were raided, allegedly on the suspicion that nearly Rs 60 crores of the discontinued 500 and 1000 rupee notes were being hoarded.
Filmmakers have been working increasingly hard to prevent leaks of footage or pictures from the sets of their films. In September, unauthorised pictures from the filming of Baahubali 2 in Rayalseema, Andhra Pradesh, went viral, despite director Rajamouli having banned mobile phones on set.
Scenes from Baahubali part one also surfaced online before it released. Scenes from films like Udta Punjab and Parched have been circulated this year.
Baahubali 2 is being made in Telugu and Tamil and will also be dubbed in Hindi, as the first film was. Baahubali part one made over Rs 650 crores worldwide and won a National Award.
Baahubali 2 will release on April 28, 2017.
