Mumbai:
Bappi Lahiri sends Toonpur Ka Superhero producers a legal notice for toon-ifying him and showing him in a "derogatory" light.
Bappi Lahiri has sent producers Krishika Lulla and Kumar Mangat Pathak a legal notice for using the cartoon character Guppy in their next release Toonpur Ka Super Hero starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol.
A source from Toonpur says, "Ajay and Kumarji are shocked at Bappida's stance.
He didn't even contact them before sending the legal notice. Ajay knows Bappida and is appalled that the music director would feel that they have made him sound derogatory in the film as he has huge regard for him and his work."
The legal notice (sent by Bappi's lawyer S Mandal) states amongst various other points, "...the movie Toonpur Ka Superhero has a character named 'Guppy' on the lines of our client right down to the multiple gold chains.
The name of the character based on our client is 'Guppy' which is also similar to his name as well as visually and physically similar to the personal/appearance of our client... it's evident that our client's persona has been portrayed in a derogatory manner and it is... a clear attempt on the part of you addressees to misuse our client's persona in order to portray wrong picture of our client to the public at large.
It is stated by our client that the said portrayal... is a derogatory and demeaning way of presenting him."
The notice also asks the producers not to depict anything about the character Guppy in TV and print promos after receiving the notice and asks them to delete the character from the film and/or change the get-up and character of Guppy so that it doesn't have any resemblance with Bappi and to issue a public apology within two days of receiving the notice failing which Bappi will take legal action.
A woman received our call when we contacted Bappi on his mobile phone number and told us to speak to his lawyer S Mondal.
Kumar Mangat:"Yes we have received a legal notice from Bappi Lahiri and our legal department is looking into it."
Krishika Lulla says "Bappi Lahiri is our senior and we respect him a lot...as far as the notice is concerned our legal team is looking into the matter."
