Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji has been admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after he was involved in an accident in New Delhi.
"He has hurt his ankle badly and has suffered injury and minor fracture in his left foot. He was travelling in an autorickshaw which overturned last night following which he was brought here," said a senior doctor at AIIMS.
"He has undergone a preliminary three-four hour surgery on his left foot and he is recuperating," the doctor added.
Mr Mukherji was in the Capital to attend the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony, where he was awarded the Best Director prize for his film Chotushkone. The film also won the award for Best Original Screenplay.
The 37-year-old director, a former economist, is known for directing acclaimed Bengali films like Autograph, Baishe Srabon, Hemlock Society, Mishawr Rawhoshyo and Jaatishwar. He recently directed actress Sushmita Sen in Nirbaak.
