Ranbir Kapoor in a still from the movie Besharam
New Delhi:
The critics panned Abhinav Singh Kashyap's Besharam as illogical and a movie that "lacks merit". However, the bad reviews notwithstanding, the film minted Rs 21.56 crore on the opening day.
Co-produced by Himanshu Mehra, Sanjeev Gupta and Reliance Entertainment, the film was made at a budget of Rs 60 crore plus the cost of promotions, marketing and advertising.
The film hit 3,600 screens in India and 700 screens overseas when it released on Wednesday on Gandhi Jayanti. The movie brings together three Kapoors -- Ranbir and his actor parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor -- for the first time on the big screen.
"Besharam lacks merit. Great start and Ranbir will see it reach safety mark but that's not saying much," trade analyst Komal Nahta posted on Twitter.
Newcomer Pallavi Sharda plays the female lead in the film.
