Mumbai:
National Award winning director Dibakar Banerjee is finally done making his first release in over two years. Understandably he wants everything to go as smoothly as possible.
But unfortunately things almost fell apart when he and his crew were in the planning process to introduce his political thriller for the very first time to the world.
Apparently, the filmmaker had to bend backwards, trying to sort out dates from his leading actors Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol for the event. However, Emraan's current producers (Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt) wouldn't let him take off even for one day.
Says a source, "Emraan is shooting for a Bhatt production at the moment and Dibakar wanted a day from him when Abhay and he could come together for the event. Unfortunately, the producers of the film just refused to give out any date. Abhay too will be shooting in Madhya Pradesh soon and it was impossible therefore to postpone the event. Despite repeated requests, the Bhatts refused to comply with Banerjee and hence the event had to be cancelled."
Catch-22 for Emraan
Adds the source, "Emraan couldn't help because he can't leave his shoot and come. Dibakar's film is very important to him, but so is the Bhatt film and hence he did not have a choice but to listen to his producers."
A distressed Banerjee says, "I was heartbroken that we were not able to kick off the promotion with a trailer launch. We went through a lot trying to coordinate Emraan and Abhay's dates together and then change it all over again."
The event is said to have been rescheduled for next week. Pointing at Ram Gopal Varma's absence during the shoot of some of Sanjay Dutt's scenes for their cop film, sources hint at a fall-out between the former buddies over creative differences.
