New Delhi:
India is thrilled that the GST Bill has finally been cleared, if slightly puzzled about what it means exactly. Twitter is likewise a little confused. Nevertheless, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan rallied splendidly.
For you, Big B and SRK, and everyone else - here's how GST will affect you, explained in 10 points.
On Wednesday, 203 MPs in the Rajya Sabha voted unanimously in favour of the Goods and Services Tax, the country's biggest tax reform, after a seven-hour debate. The AIADMK staged a walk out. The bill will now be sent back to the Lok Sabha, which passed it last year, to clear amendments.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that GST - a single national tax that replaces a complicated mesh of indirect taxes - will roll out by April 2017. That gives Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and the rest of us enough time to figure it out.
