Sonakshi was seen leaving Mumbai late last night for the IIFA festivities
New Delhi:
This election season, Bollywood celebrities are having to juggle casting their vote and attending the International Indian Film Academy awards which begin in Tampa Bay, Florida on April 23.
Mumbai votes on April 24 but ask Sonakshi Sinha how she's planning to shuttle between the polling booth and the IIFA awards and she replies: "I am leaving for IIFA tonight. Kaise (vote) karenge ab samajh lo yaar." A rather casual sentiment from the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, the BJP's candidate from Patna Sahib.
Saif Ali Khan, host of the IIFA Technical Awards, will also have to skip the ballot box. Saif's spokesperson says the star is legally bound to be IIFA and can't cancel his trip. (Pics: Sonakshi, Saif leave for IIFA)
However, many celebrities are expected to put the ballot first. Award night co-host and Best Actor nominee Farhan Akhtar will cast his vote and then fly to the US as will Best Actress nominee Deepika Padukone.
Vidya Balan, who has been the Bollywood face promoting IIFA so far, has reportedly decided to cancel her appearance at the awards. Super Khans Aamir and Shah Rukh cleared their calendars for voting day well in advance. Both have been actively encouraging citizens to go out and vote. SRK said recently: "Please go out in numbers and vote. Vote for the people you would like to be elected and run this country to the way we would all wish it to be. All of us here would like to have a happy country."
The Bachchans are also expected to be in Mumbai to cast their votes as are Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, though Sonam's father Anil is expected to inaugurate the IIFA expo on day one.
