The only Indian artiste theyhave ever heard is Asha Bhonsle but international chart bustersProdigy who are making their maiden trip to India, arefascinated by the "funky" sounds of Bollywood.
The British techno group who are on the wish list ofKing Khan, Shah Rukh, for his ambitious superhero flickRa.One, are here for the Eristoff Invasion festival and arelooking forward to their India experience.
"We're hoping we've got a good person to show usaround. It's exciting for us, because none of us really knowwhat to expect. When we go to Europe of Japan, we know what toexpect. As much as it is about coming to the festival, withIndia, it's also about the whole experience," composer LiamHowlett told PTI in an interview.
The hitmakers who had collaborated with Asian artisteShahin Badar on their most controversial track till date,Smack My Bitch Up say that it is retro Bollywood that theyfind exciting.
"I find it (Bollywood) really fascinating. I don'treally know anything about it. The only thing I know is someold 1970s kind of recording, a Bollywood soundtrack of AshaBhosle's. As a producer, I'm excited by the sounds coming outof India at that time, some of those records have a funkyinfluence," said Howlett.
Prodigy, consisting of Howlett, Keith Flint andMaxim along with with Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers'and 'The Crystal Method, have been credited as pioneers ofthe big beat genre which achieved mainstream popularity in the1990s and 2000s.
The set list they say will reflect their two decadelong career.
"If we were playing in Germany, we'd update the setand play a lot of new tunes and so forth, tunes people haven'theard before. But because it's our first time in India, wewill be playing music right from our first album all the wayup to Invaders Must Die," said Howlett.
The group performed in Bangalore yesterday and willperform in Delhi tomorrow.
