Sridevi, Jaya Bachchan, Ashutosh Gowariker and Ramesh Sippy light the ceremonial lamp

The 14th edition of the MumbaiFilm Festival kick-started with the screening of SilverLinings Playbook, starring Anupam Kher, in the presence ofseveral Bollywood celebrities including Sridevi, JayaBachchan, Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Gowariker.
At the inaugural ceremony Thursday, Sridevi, Jaya andfilmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker, Ramesh Sippy, along with ShyamBenegal, chairman of organising body Mumbai Academy of MovingImage (MAMI), lit the ceremonial lamp.
Also present on the occasion were actress Kirron Kherwith husband Anupam, Manisha Koirala, actor Rahul Bose, RanvirShorey, Shahana Goswami, director R Balki with wife andfilmmaker Gauri Shinde, Pritish Nandy, Shahana Goswami, RohitRoy and Bhavana Balsaver.
The highlight of the programme was Chinese filmmakerZhang Yimou, who was honoured with the lifetime achievementaward by Tina Ambani, wife of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai AmbaniGroup head Anil Ambani.
Yimou is best known for films like To Live, 'Houseof Flying Daggers, Curse of The Golden Flower and Raisethe Red Lantern among others.
"I have always believed that cinema is a bridgebetween cultures. I thank MAMI for appreciating my efforts andacknowledging my contribution towards cinema", Yimou said.Brought in with great pomp and aplomb, the first dayof the 14th Mumbai Film Festival set pace for the week-longcinematic extravaganza that promises to feature the finestworks of cinematic genius from a lineup of over 200 films.
The festival will go on till October 25 at theNational Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) & Inox, NarimanPoint, Liberty Cinemas, Marine Lines as the main festivalvenues and Cinemax, Andheri and Cinemax Sion as the satellitevenues.
