Bollywood releases fail to impress

Bollywood releases fail to impress
New Delhi: The last weeks' Bollywood releases have seen miserable collections at the box-office and are costing the producers and directors dearly.

With both films, Knock Out and Aakrosh, being blatant copies of Hollywood films, the releases left much to be desired.

Aakrosh, based on the injustice of honour killings that plague certain sects of India, in this respect a small district in Bihar, it is an out-and-out copy of the Hollywood block-buster Mississippi Burning. Even though it was a highly anticipated release, the film managed to collect only Rs 7.5 crores, with not much more to look forward to.

On the other hand, Knock Out bears an uncanny resemblance to the Collin Farrel starrer Phone Booth, with hints from Liberty Stands Tall. This film too, ran out on steam on the opening weekend with barely Rs 3 crore, so far.

The Rishi-Neetu starrer Do Dooni Chaar and Emraan Hashmi's Crook were the last to hit the silver screen. Though the figures have not been made available, so far, Do Dooni Chaar has garnered an average rating. But its competitor Crook even with the serial-kisser Emraan Hashmi, has barely made a scratch - it collected a 'whopping' Rs 1 crore.

So far the releases are lagging, what remains to be seen is whether Rakta Charitra, Action Replayy and Golmaal will bring back the Bollywood magic.
